Your alarm goes off, you hit the snooze and sleep for another 10 minutes.
He stays up for days on end.
__________________________
You take a warm shower to help you wake up.
He goes days or weeks without running water.
__________________________
You complain of a "headache", and call in sick.
He gets shot at, as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.
__________________________
You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends.
He still fights for your right to wear that shirt.
__________________________
You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket.
He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.
__________________________
You talk trash on your "buddies" that aren't with you.
He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.
__________________________
You don't feel like helping out your dad today, so you don't.
He does what he is told.
__________________________
You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.
He walks the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.
__________________________
You complain about how hot it is.
He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow.
__________________________
You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong.
He does not get to eat today.
__________________________
Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes.
He wears the same things for months, but makes sure his weapons are clean.
__________________________
You go to the mall and get your hair redone.
He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today.
__________________________
You are angry because your class ran 5 minutes over.
He is told he will be held an extra 2 months.
He does as he is told.
__________________________
You call your girlfriend and set a date for that night.
He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home.
__________________________
You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.
He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume.
__________________________
You ditch class to go to a movie.
He goes where he is told.
__________________________
You roll your eyes as a baby cries.
He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet.
__________________________
You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.
He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own government and remembers why he is fighting.
__________________________
You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of the men like him.
He hears the gun fire and bombs.
__________________________
You see only what the media wants you to see.
He sees the bodies lying around him.
__________________________
You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.
He does what he is told.
__________________________
You stay at home and watch tv.
He takes whatever time he is given to call and write home, sleep, and eat.
__________________________
You crawl into your bed, with down pillows, and try to get comfortable.
He crawls under a tank for shade and a 5 minute nap, only to be woken by gun fire.
__________________________
You sit there and judge him, saying the world is a worse place because of men like him.
If only there were more men like him
I'm not sure of the author, I am going to email my friend she might have written it, she's talented so if it was her I'll be sure to add her name to it.

This is so true:) Thank you for putting this up. It is true most people have no idea what it is like over there and the media does not do a good job of reporting it. Praying for all of you
Deb
I truly don't know how they {soldiers}do it, but I'm eternally grateful!
Lori
This is so true! we live in the most wonderful country in the world because of him. We will never forget. Our prayers are with you. Blessings, Penny http://journals.aol.com/firestormkids04/FromHeretoThere
WOW Christy-
I have seen many things but never saw this before. It is sooo true! The sacrifices that our military endures, should make us all take a step back and truly see what the US military does for us.
I know we, as a military family appreciate each and every military member and not a day goes by that they are not in our thoughts and of course in our prayers.
A blessed nation waits for all of the soldiers safe return~ God bless you all!
Oh I am so copying this and sending it to my sister! Linda
thanks for the reminder. Lelly (Sangria Times) adapted it from a women's point of view because of her niece being there, but both are very powerful messages

That is soo true. So many people take each day of freedom for granted. Thank you for reminding once again what he and other soldiers are doing for us!
Came across this journal last night and thought this was awesome! And also wanted to say 'Thank you' to you and your husband for your service to our country.

very nice writting. i came to the site to thank you for writting me. i can't believe you have the time to read other journals with two boys running around. you must manage your time well. i'm a writer and i like what i just read. yes i want to go to the countries i meantioned and am looking forward to it one day. i'm glad you get to travel. do you get to enjoy any of the places you have been to? i mean with your husband in the service do you travel with him? i bet it's nerve wracking and hard to settle down constantly on the move. i can see from this journal you get a lot of support. i'm glad. i know of one person who was in iraq my nephew in law.( if thats the way you say it?) my husbands nieces husband. anyway he came back safe and sound to his wife and little girl, and we haven't heard much from them lately.my cousin is in the service but has not served over seas. he is stationed right now in san antonio. my journal seems trivial now seeing what you've gone thru. thanx anyway for writting i will take my journal off line.
I have found that I complain less with my son deployed for those very reasons.
He is having nightmares now. I haven't slept soundly for days. I'm having sympathy insomnia. I can't wait for his leave time (May). Maybe then both of us can catch a few z's before he has to go back.
WOW! This is very powerful and moving I would love to know who indeed wrote this. It stopped my heart!
I have a lot of respect for you and your husband and your site always makes me cry. What great Americans you both are.
Kelly
Christy & Chad,
Thank You! For everything!
